Challenge - Week 1

Posted by darthwho on June 14th, 2007

Going to solely stick to weekly posts. Posting after each session is overkill. Will add to each week with any observations I may make.

Games Played:  5
Buy-in: $3.40
Profit: $22.00
Positions Finished: 1, 3, 2, 7, 2

Challenge - Session 3

Posted by darthwho on June 12th, 2007

Bah. Anyways, freerolls aren’t for my lifestyle. My lifestyle being I have a kid, limited amount of time for play and when I do have the time, it’s hard to find one going that suits my needs. Satellites are even worse as generally I can’t play the follow-up game on the weekends.

So, with that being said, deposited 50 CDN (47 USD)

Playing 3.40 Turbo SNGS. First session at this level treated me well. Played 3, placed in 3. 1st, 3rd, then 2nd.

Profit of 19+

Challenge - Session 2

Posted by darthwho on May 25th, 2007

Game: NL Tourney
Buy-in: 10 FPP
Prize pool: $250

Result: 421/~3200
Winnings: 0.17 (that’s right, 17 cents!!)

Not much to say here, pretty much a donk fest with myself donking out on my fair share!

Challenge - Session 1

Posted by darthwho on May 23rd, 2007

Well, Session 1 on Stars was fairly discouraging. I played a 36 player turbo SNG 900 FPP to the Sunday Millions. This week’s buyin to the Sunday Millions is $530 (last week of every month).

I saw 4 flops total (out of nearly 50 some hands), the 4th taking me out. Now, it’s a turbo and I have to be somewhat less picky of what hands to play in general because the blinds creep up so quick. 2 of the 4 flops I saw was from my big blind. Another flop was with A Q, and my final was pocket 7s (against A 7 suited, he flopped a flush).

I’ve been card dead before, but this was quite bad. Not a single Ace besides the A Q. Never had two faces, never had a pocket pair ’til final hand. Heck, I had only 2 suited connectors which I was going to play but was popped up to an all-in before it gets to me.

Anyways, I did well enough, finished 16th considering, but what else was I to do? When do you say screw it and push with Q 4 (which started to look pretty good)?

900 FPP was a hefty buy-in, but I was in the right frame of mind to play well. Maybe I should have risked some chips early with marginal hands. But, out of all the hands that I folded and after seeing the board, I would have only won 1 hand.

Not letting this session get me down though. Like I said, I finished 16th when I could have easily got frustrated with my cards and donked them off earlier. Was waiting for the right opportunity, sadly when I had 77, buddy with A 7 had the right odds to call.

Challenge - Warmup Session

Posted by darthwho on May 17th, 2007

I call this a warmup strictly because my play was on Full Tilt (which I may include in my own challenge). Watched the hockey game last night and by the time it was over, there was nothing available for me to play on Stars. So, I played 3 FTP (50) 54-man turbos last night. These qualify for the 2500 FTP FTOPS qualifier.

First game, was out after about 10 hands. Pocket 6s. Flop is 6 A A. Buddy had A A. Hmmm, hands like this seems to be the original reason why I quit…

Second game, out after about 50 hands or so. Nothing drastic, short stacked in a turbo after another insignificant hand. Pushed with A 10, called by A J. That was that.

Third game. Finished 2nd. Out of 54 playing a turbo, this wasn’t too bad. Got lucky a few times to be sure. Final hand. I had about 20,000 and opponnent has about 60,000 in chips. Blinds are 2500/5000. I push with K 10, he calls with A 10. I hit my K on the flop, he hits A on river. Ah well.

Like I said, warmup session only. Going to concentrate mostly on Stars, but may visit FT every now and then too.

Second career? Probably not.

Well, “The Second Time Around” has come to a close. We had a great run. Sold out Friday and Saturday, but didn’t manage to fill the seats on Wednesday or Thursday. Next October, we hope to fill all the seats all 4 nights.

Thanks to a lot of the boys for coming out to the show, was great to get your support!

Got a phone call after Thursday night’s performance. Writer/Producer from a local TV station was at the show and asked if I would film a commercial. Start of something great? Maybe not, but it was fun to do. Not sure when it will be on, but I’m sure the boys will give me a razzin’

One week to opening night!

Posted by darthwho on March 14th, 2007

Well, we’re down to 1 week. Man, how time flew for this one. Both Annie and I have been really busy these past few months that it hardly seems that we’ve had time to just sit down and relax for more than a few hours.

Things are shaping up great. Last rehearsal on Sunday went really well. Everyone seems to have gotten to the heart of their character and should prove to be an enjoyable show. A couple of rehearsals tonight, then 3 dress rehearsals Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday and that’s it!

Can’t wait to rehearse on stage. Hairy Tease Productions is always struggling to find the optimal rehearsal space. We’ve been in a space about half the size the set will be. Will be fun to finally play a scene without feeling like your blocking another person on stage from the audience! Set build starts this weekend and should mostly be good to go for our Sunday afternoon dress.

Hope you got your tickets!!

Easily the best film I’ve seen in the theatres this year. Okay, so I’ve been REALLY busy and this is only the second movie I’ve seen in the theatres this year. But, it was great.

Why? Well, it was different. Not wow, that’s completely different than anything I’ve seen before, but it is in a small genre of films that have yet to be made. The “Virtual Studio” genre. This is Sky Captain and Sin City effects rolled into one here. The great “virtual” visuals of Sky Captain, with better action and dialogue, and the style of Sin City, without the great dialogue…

On top of the visuals, was some great music. Not, wow astonishing, but definitely great. Really got your blood bumping during some of the fantastic slow motion scenes (which by the way, there are a lot of, but it doesn’t feel overdone)

Anyways, definitely one that should be seen in the theatres if you can.

5/180…just a little unlucky

Posted by darthwho on March 3rd, 2007

Played in a 180 man tourney Saturday night. $4 buy-in. Like playing these for the practice in larger multi-table games.

Was a great game, up until about 20 people left, I was about 2:1 over 2nd in chips. Got my chips in with the best hand quite a few times and not once did the board go their way.  Until the hand that pretty much took me out of the tourney.

Anyways, all my respect to CK JerBear, he played a great game and was able to get lucky on this one to become chip leader! I told him to make great use of them as I departed 2 hands later.

Happy with my performance on this one. Very patient indeed. Outside the blinds, had seen the flop about 14%. With blinds, 24%

So, my wife’s “stars” account now has additional money. As my roll is pretty much dead there, played this tourney and a 6-man SNG using her account (BoogeyEyes). Won the SNG and 5th here. Another 70 for her account. May transfer it for a small roll on stars for myself.

Ghost Rider

Posted by darthwho on March 1st, 2007

Saw this with Dan (dango) a couple nights ago. Left me wanting more. A LOT MORE. Ridiculous. There were a few good lines, one cool slow motion scene with him  (Ghost Rider) jumping on his bike off a building, but that was it.

I did not grow up reading comic books. I did however enjoy most TV shows, cartoons, etc.. As a grown kid now, I love the movies. I enjoy the superhero movies. Even the “not-so-good” ones (The Punisher), but, this was just not that great.

The action scenes were boring. Boring. A few battles here and there that last all of a minute each!! Dan tells me this was delayed a year so they could add some action scenes, obviously, I didn’t see this special version.

Anyways, a word to Marvel. You’ve got some great characters. We’re in a time period where superhero movies can be done with great effects. Let’s not waste this with a half-ass script and some poor action sequences. All your heroes have great potential for some real depth. This was not explored at all in this movie.
